Summary: blah
Comment: so much potental so poorly written. the writers obviously made a few character flaws and well, they left out quite a bit. it was very confusing but hard to read? idk mixed good and bad hence the three . not one of the best. if your looking for a good angel/ buffy book. read moster island. way more worth the timE!!!!

Summary: so much potential..
Comment: another novel in the Buffy-verse by the husband and wife team, this one nearly as unwieldy and wrong as Mortal Fear. Again we get unnecessary comics references, this time with Gunn uncharacteristically penning one in response to stereotyping. The plotting of the novel itself also runs more like a comics script than a novel, with far too much attention to physical detail and motion rather than essential plot elements. They could also have used a thesaurus, or just cut down on the use of "suddenly".. To be fair, this is the only novel I've come across that gives significant attention to Fred, and for that it deserves applause. At the same time, nearly all of the characters come across as characatures; the writers obviously know the show and details about the timeline and cast interaction, but manage to completely miss the essence of each. The story also rapidly gets divorced from its "end of season 4 setting" - aside from Wesley's estrangement, there's little that couldn't happen at any other time, and it seems odd for the crew to ignore everything else.
I'll admit I'm being a bit harsh, but only because there is so much untapped potential in the book - the plot's intricate and appropriately tricky, and the characters seem like old friends, but everything is just off enough to prevent true greatness. As such, it remains an above average episode novel, but fails to achieve the tight writing of the television show.

Summary: Angel's school of magic
Comment: "Nemesis" is certainly one of the best Angel books in a long time. There is a great story, and most of the charactors that we know and love are major players. Angel and Gunn go undecover at a mystical abby (a school for potential mages) that exists outside the plain of reality in order to solve a nightclub massacre. They must find the wizard responsable for braking down the walls that seperate all the realities from one another. Meanwhile Fred begins her own investigation into an old college friend's murder. And finally Wes and (of all people) Connor join forces to fight off monsters from other worlds that are poping up all over L.A. There is major conflicts in this book that are profetic to the end of "Angel Season Four". We are always tense as Connor confronts Wesley, afraid for the revenge that we all know Connor wants to take. Wes still feels awful about his role in the infant Connor's abduction. Fred realizes that she can act independently from Angel Investigations, and puts her alianation from Gunn to good use. And finally Gunn and Angel have it out about their relationship, about whether they are friends, or just employer/employee. (Only Cordelia and Lorne are left on the side lines for the most part.) I thought that having Gunn draw a comic book where he is a "Blade" like vampire killer and Angel was a bumbling sidekick in a bad Hawian shirt was funny and just right, and gave the mostly dark story line a lighter feel that is correct in the Buffy/Angel world. If there is one compliant, it is the abby itself. It just seemed too "Harry Potter"ish for me. But all in all, this is a great book, a quick read despite it's nearly 400 page length, and all Angel fans should enjoy it.
