Summary: Far and away, the best photos ever of Ali.
Comment: Such a marvelously handsome book. When I first met Ali at his mother's house in 1988, he autographed my copy -- and did so a remarkable 72 times, including comments about his mother and father, his wives and children, opponents, Elijah Muhammad, Howard Cosell, Malcolm X. This copy is famous because of my own book, THE TAO OF MUHAMMAD ALI, and because of my story, "My Dinner with Ali." As of 2/01/2004, my copy of this book is for sell as an Amazon auction item, Auction ID #0201W866331.

Summary: Great photos of Ali, but uninspired commentary
Comment: I remember when my uncle bought me this book for my birthday about 25 years ago. I loved the large colorful pictures, especially a 2 page layout of Ali glaring disdainfully at a retreating George Foreman. The pictures alone make the book a worthy purchase.
But Sheed doesn't offer any insightful commentary on Ali other than his own biased meanderings. It isn't the best book on Ali in terms of historical worth and journalistic reporting. For that, I would read 'King of the World' or Thomas Hauser's authoritative biography, written with the full cooperation of Ali.
