Summary: Fluffy Format Hinders This Book's Message
Comment: The authors have assembled an unfocused, rambling treatment of electro-crystal therapy. But, then, this is not meant to be a scientific presentation. It is purely anecdotal, which is a reasonable, if limiting, approach. Their biographical treatment is understandable, since their fundamental desire is to pay homage to Harry Oldfield, a pioneer in the field of this complementary health care. Aside from implicitly attributing variations of other scientists' research and theories to Mr. Oldfield (such as Rupert Sheldrake's morphic resonance [see Sheldrake's many fine books] and especially Georges Lakhovsky's cellular oscillation therapy, published in "The Secret of Life" in 1939--both authors available through Amazon.com), and the book's lack of any bibliographic citation, it remains an intriguing read, if only from a testimonial standpoint (see especially chapter 7). Assuming that persons interviewed throughout the book are honest, that their cases are accurately portrayed, and that the purported improvements have actually occurred due to these unconventional treatments (admittedly large assumptions from the reader's perspective, since these claims are impossible to verify from the book itself), then electro-crystal therapy should receive considerably more serious scientific and medical attention as an inexpensive, viable, and effective treatment mechanism. Interested readers may have already read the multitude of other texts that discuss nonlocality and healing energies, and so this book's claims, when placed alongside other texts, seem more reasonable and reliable. Certain material, such as Chapter 8, could wisely have been omitted as irrelevant, and, frankly, its inclusion aids critics in garnering more "outrageous" information with which to attack this subject and its proponents. Greater reliance upon testimonials, and a more scientific approach in their writing, would have enabled the authors to establish greater credibility. Given the significance of the topics discussed in this book, however, it is well worth reading by anyone interested in electro-crystal therapies. (Note particularly the contact information at the end of the book for further materials.)
