Summary: Cornea by Coster
Comment: Certainly the only text I have found in the field to present a technologically up-to-date, user-friendly and endearingly logical approach to the field of keratology. Relatively brief, strategically illustrated to aid understanding, and very readable, this book eliminates the unnecessary fog that can surround the practice of this field through teaching and then applying important principles onto which selective details are added. I was reassured that the single author is a professor and eminent expert in the field, and in fact this is one of those works where having a single author benefits its uniformity simply as Coster presents a unified way of thinking throughout. Any reader will need to use a more didactic text from time to time to add some additional facts to this text. However the book succeeds in translating the ins and outs of specialised management of corneal and external diseases management for non corneal sub-specialists. The no-nonsense text makes the intricacies of managing corneal disease, both before and after surgery, together with a guide to operative surgery, accessible to all ophthalmologists. Coster is to be congratulated for being generous and humble enough to present and transmit his experience as a highly respected corneal sub-specialist as a skill that can be learned and effectively practised by the non corneal specialist.
