Comment: This book was a disappointment. The copy I received has 1993 and 1998 copyrights, so despite the tag "Revised Edition" on the front, it is not a recent revision. That makes all the difference in the world when you are writing about the topic of travel safety. Because this book was revised several years prior to Sept. 11, 2001, a great deal of the information is out of date and useless. I found myself not trusting anything in the book. I was disappointed in The Safe Travel Book not only because of its outdated information, but also because it seems aimed at executives and diplomats rather than the average traveler. In addition, the presentation is dry. I found myself skimming the pages rather than reading them.

My recommendation to the author would be another revision, which I hope is in the works. And a few personal stories would liven up the material.

Summary: really good and useful
Comment: This is a must-read for people traveling overseas, particularly those going to politically unstable countries or those working for large, multi-national countries. Mr. Savage covers all the basics of safe travel and gives many helpful suggestions. I have bought several copies for friends going on their first international trip.
