Summary: Liked it, but a little predictable?
Comment: I loved Behind Closed Doors, because it was so original. Steamy sex, alpha-male/malleable female who were three-dimensional, great suspense -- that book offered something most romantic suspense is missing. Standing in the Shadows had that too, but that's the problem. This book was almost a complete replica of BCD. Especially the sex scenes, where the insecure alpha male repeatedly uses aggressive sex to control the heroine. Throughout the book, I kept thinking, "been there, done that." Also, although I loved the graphic, steamy sex scenes, I agree with other readers that the amount of sex didn't make sense in the context of the book. I mean, Connor knows that an insane, evil, maniacal man is out to kill Erin, and could come around the corner any minute, and yet Connor and Erin engage in 72 hours straight of sex, in her house, which is the first place the killer would come looking for her? It made the book seem silly. Don't get me wrong, even with it's faults, this book is head above other stuff in this genre. And I look forward to reading stories featuring Connor's brothers, Davy and Sean. I just hope that the author will take a new approach with those books, perhaps making the men a little more sensitive, and the women a little more assertive.

Summary: A Great Sequel!!!
Comment: This was a great sequel to Ms. McKenna's first book "Behine Closed Doors". This is Conner's story and it's steamy, sexy, and suspensful!

Conner is back after his encounter with Novak. His worst nightmare though is about to come true. Novak and Georg have escaped out of prison and he is positive that they are on their way to Washington state to finish what he started with Ed Riggs daughter Erin. The fact that Connor has loved Erin since she was sixteen is all the more reason he jumps right into the role of "protector."

Erin can't believe how fall she has fallen. Her mom and sister are counting on her to be strong after the events that led her father to be sent to jail. She remembers the fact that Connor was hurt by something her father did and she is trying to put her life back together. She has been fired from her museum job and she now lives in a rundown apartment building with only a cat for company. Then she finds Connor on her front step telling her that he life may be in danger and that he is there to protect her.

While these two people spend time together they explore the feelings that they both have for each other that they have kept quite. Soon they both realize that their feelings are returned but, are they too late has their common enemy found a way to destroy them?

This was a great fast paced book. The chemistry between Connor and Erin is sizzeling and the storyline will keep you turning the pages! I look forward to more stories by this talented author!

Summary: Totally predictable
Comment: The girl in peril and humky bodyguard has pretty much been done to death by this stage.

Also, the problem here is that the couple are already in love with each other from the start of the book, so there is no tension there.

The evil people introduced in the first book are predictable and elaborately villanous. Why go to all the trouble to destroy people's lives when you plan to kill them anyway?

Connor is not quite as Cro-Magnon as Seth, but nor does he have the same angst. It is like he runs out of steam and forgets he is meant to be revenging his poor dead tortured partner and his own injuries.

The sex is violent and predictable, a far cry from the erotic heat of Behind Closed Doors.

Beyond the sex,the book was just plain boring. There was not enough sex, in fact, compared with the first book (which went on TOO long, but at least had a point in them getting to know one another).

Here the book was cluttered by mother, sister needing to also be rescued, his brothers and so on. Connor got lost in the shuffle and I knew so little about Erin other than that she was supposed to be a good girl and conditioned her hair that the book left me cold.

I can see the author setting herself up for a sequel with Davy or Sean a mile off, but unfortunately in this book she totally failed to deliver either romance or suspense. Let's hope the next one is better.
