Summary: YOU CAN DO BETTER! BELIEVE ME!
Comment: I did this whole tutorial book. So I am a little bit grateful. After you buy the book, throw away the CD. It's virtually worthless. Use it as a coaster for your drinks and freak out your friends. Now see the movie "The Merry Widow" (1933).
Maurie Chauvalier: Don't I look terrific? Jeanette MacDonald: Funny, yes. Terrific, no!
Well, that about sums it up. There are huge "blocks" in this tutorial. Like you are walking on a bridge and some of the planks are missing. And then you have to trace your way back and figure it out yourself! I had to do this 3 times. The book is okay, Just don't buy it. Buy "Running Microsoft Windows 98" by Craig Stinson. The doctors won't have to keep taking skin grafts because you keep tearing out your hair. And there isn't any phoney CD. Good luck!

Summary: Good resource
Comment: This book does a good job of giving some good basic information about Windows 98, although I did find errors. I bought this book and Patrick Neal's Windows 98:Exam 70-098 (Accelerated MCSE from McGraw-Hill.) Either book is quite readable, however, as an MCT, I'm recommending Neal's Windows 98 book to both my students and my friends because it's just as readable as this one, as well as giving a thorough, and basic explanation of Windows 98 functions in the scheme of computer networks. Both this book and Neals' can be read by the novice as well as the professional. I'm rcommending this book to my friends who want a more light-hearted read about Windows 98.

Summary: There's no perfect computer guide.....
Comment: For people still using Windows 98 (which in the current worm- infested environment seems a distinct advantage) this book is about the best you can do. Explains basic stuff, has good illustrations, and if the book doesn't EXACTLY answer your question, with some searching you can usually figure it out. The big questions remain 1) why are these products so complicated and 2) why isn't Microsoft publishing the best guide? It's really too bad that the BEST sources of software tips are the Q&A columns in newspapers.
