Rating: 1
Summary: Too brief
Comment: Not much territory covered in this book. It showed some new techniques but nothing worth half a C note. A more comprehensive coverage would have been nice. I don't think it cost more than 50 cents to manufacture that CD.
Rating: 5
Summary: Finally, a Photoshop book that makes the reader the pro.
Comment: Deke McCleland gets to flex some of Photshop's bigger muscles in Photoshop 4 Studio Secrets. Too many books concentrate on the basic functions of Photoshop. McClelland, creator of the Photshop 4 Bible, takes a look at making truly creative images. Everything from creating smoother, slicker collages to spicing up illustrations is covered. McClelland gets some of the best Photoshop artists to show off their techniques in print, video, and internet. I give this book a 9 for three reasons. First, I kinda wished they delved a tiny bit more into the artists' thought processes behind the actions. Second, because Amazon doesn't won't let me give a rating of 9 1/2. Finally, as for the other half point to get to a perfect 10 rating, the CD didn't have any goodies to plug into the program. Oh, well. Beggers can't be choosers. My only warning is this: If you are afraid of using masks or channels, this might not be the book for you. It could be intimidating to those whose only Photoshop experience is in using filters and the clone tool. Otherwise, you won't regret parting with your cybercash for this book.
