Summary: Good book, but more than a programmer needs to know
Comment: I read this book because the JavaWorld editor recommended it. I found the first 4 chapters to be very good. However, after that it got into issues that were relavent only to people creating Java Programming environments (like Symantec and Borland). I wish the author had spent more time on the basic concepts used by programmers. Needs richer example code in this area.
It is overpriced for a programmer.
Rating: 5
Summary: Excellent resource
Comment: I'm the JavaBeans columnist for JavaWorld, and I heartily recommend this book. The section that compares various component technology, while very well-written, does so at a very high level. This book focuses on JavaBeans technology and is excellent for developers or technical management. For an in-depth comparison of various component frameworks, though, in my opinion you'll probably want to look elsewhere.
This review is my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the views of JavaWorld or IDG Books.
