Rating: 5
Summary: Superb analysis of a difficult subject
Comment: Rabbi Kadish presents the reader with a lucid and interesting discussion of intense devotion during individual prayer. Unlike the wide panoply of books which delve into technique, laws and pedantic details of prayer ritual,Rabbi Kadish delves into the emotional and personal aspect of prayer. Kavanah is as integral to prayer as the words themselves. Unfortunately, kavanah has been a neglected topic in the corpus ofliterature up until now. The only other book which deals extensively with kavanah is Rabbi Steinsaltz's book on Jewish Prayer in Hebrew. Kudos to Rabbi Kadish on a job well done to bring the flavor of Jewish prayer to the American populace
