Summary: Book will want to make you watch his TV show!
Comment: Read THE O'REILLY FACTOR: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE
COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS IN AMERICAN LIFE by bill o'reilly,
host of Fox News Channel's THE O'REILLY FACTOR . . . have you
ever seen his show? I haven't, but would like to after reading his best-selling book . . . he's one very opinionated guy, but I found myself agreeing with a lot of what he wrote . . . for example, he talks about one way to solve the drug problem is to have a forced rehab program like Alabama has . . . there, all prisoners are tested as soon as they're booked . . . all convicted suspects are given a choice: forced drug rehab in a prison drug facility or a longer sentence with the
general prison population . . . of the 5,000 participants so far, twice as many criminals stay off drugs upon release than those without rehab (and they must submit to regular drug testing for years after release).
There were many memorable passages; among them:
It's time that we all lighten up about sex, accept the reality of
the situation, and keep our secular activities where they belong:
in the privacy of the bedroom or hot tub, or in the case of
Pamela Anderson, on the Internet.
Here's the most important thing you need to know for success:
Identify your true talents. We're all born with a grab bag of
gifts . . . Think deeply about yours; identify them clearly; then
find out how to use them to make money!
Of course, we need it [money], but enjoying a job is worth plenty, too. If you look forward to going to work when you wake up in the morning, you are a success, no matter what your job description. Do you envy the guys and gals with the huge houses out in the suburbs and exurbs? How about their two- or three-hour commutes in the mornings and the evenings? And how about the "big nuts" of taxes, mortgages, private school fees and all the rest that require them to keep their heads down and play the corporate games, losing their dignity so they won't lose their mock-Tudor homes? Sometimes, having money costs too much.

Summary: Fast-moving, fun, informative, provocative....like O'Reilly
Comment: Now that he has launched a major talk radio show, with one of the biggest rollouts in radio history, more people are going to wonder about Bill O'Reilly -- who he is and what he really thinks.
The O'Reilly Factor is a perfect place to start. In 214-fast-moving pages O'Reilly produces a fast-paced collection of commentaries on everything from politics to family, money, friendship, sex, media, drugs,(often ludicrous) celebrities -- and more.
What seemingly sets O'Reilly apart in his commentaries on Fox News and his shows is that although he's coming from somewhere politically, he will to look at gray areas in often black and white issues...and even concede a few points to those who disagree with him. No where is this more apparent than in this collection of commentaries artfully organized with bold-faced headers like "THIS JUST IN," or "RIDICULOUS NOTE," or "BULLETIN." As in his Fox News Special on the media and America's children, O'Reilly masterfully uses media and artfully presents his material. This book is so conversational it's like you're listening to O'Reilly in his home or watching his show.
O'Reilly mixes facts with some bluntly-written opinion, but clearly tries to make his case and win over the reader, rather than just state it. But aside from the specific issues, I loved this book because of the way he weaves in autobiographical material about his childhood -- and about the snakepit he found himself working in when he became a reporter. In his account, he was idealistic and clearly naive and walked straight into office political buzzsaws while working as an Emmy-winning newsman for various networks.
My favorite chapter (which you don't usually see mentioned in a review): His chapter on the importance of cultivating and maintaining friendships. He says what some people don't want to say: friendship is a TWO WAY street which means being there for your friend and returning phone calls QUICKLY.
"Some of my old friends wouldn't make the time to keep our friendship alive, and they drifted away," he writes. "I miss them, even though I'm annoyed by their stupidity."
More than his other book, The No Spin Zone, in The O'Reilly Factor you get vital -- and fascinating -- glimpses into who Bill O'Reilly IS and what makes him tick. In my case, I truly liked what I found and enjoyed every minute of the discovery.

Summary: Narcissus reborn
Comment: Bill O'Reilly couldn't report the news so now he wants to live as a commentator, the mondern day watchman over truth, justice and the American Way. yuck, yuck, gag. He writes and speaks in third person, how bizarre is that. Save your money and your eyes, don't buy this book or accept if handed to you.
