Summary: O'Reilly's book is excellent, must read!
Comment: The No Spin Zone by Bill O'Reilly gives powerful people and problems in America a smack with common sense and morals. The No Spin Zone confronts powerful people in America, about the problems in America and O'Reilly argues his points valiantly. O'Reilly expresses his opinion on many issues such as sexual deviants, taxes, media, and drugs. Each issue he discusses also has transcripts of people who oppose him on the issue, which is pulled from his prime time show The O'Reilly Factor. That is what makes the book interesting, you have many of his opponents trying to spin the truth, but O'Reilly unwinds it all so we can get the hard facts that matter and not the political lies and mumbo jumbo.
This selection is great for people who have a understanding of politics, and for people who want a better understanding of current American problems. There really is no down fall to the book, I really couldn't put it down. I like to hear about anything O'Reilly has to say, because it is usually the truth. I give The No Spin Zone five out five, a perfect choice for any reader. Bill O'Reilly has also written two others books, The O'Reilly Factor and Those Who Trespass. Both are just as great as The No Spin Zone.

Summary: Interesting but Ulltimately Unsatisfying
Comment: Mr. O'Reilly's book deals with several issues including violence in the media, capital punishment, and taxes, devoting one chapter to each issue. Each chapter contains transcriptions of interviews O'Reilly has conducted with several notable figures, including the Rev. Al Sharpton and then presidential candidate George W. Bush. Each chapter also includes commentary by O'Reilly which explains his views regarding each issue. The interviews and chapters are interesting but short. Disappointingly, often there are only one or two pages of commentary by O'Reilly, leaving the discussion rudimentary.
What does exist is fantastic. O'Reilly has been accused (by different people) of being both a left-wing and a right-wing fanatic, when the truth is that he is a person who gives a lot of thought into his opinions on issues rather than choosing a party and sticking to its tenets or trying to fit into a crowd by espousing certain beliefs. In one of the final chapters he sets aside his views on several key issues and challenges the reader to place him in one of the major parties.
The No-Spin Zone is an interesting read and O'Reilly a sincere individual. One of the major goals of The No Spin Zone is to show that many of America's most prominent figures have not really thought about the ideas they champion, but I came away wishing it were twice as long with more focus on the issues discussed.

Summary: Not the best format for O'Reilly
Comment: I must admit to being a pretty frequent watcher of Bill O'Reilly's TV program "The O'Reilly Factor." Although I sometimes disagree with him, I often am on the same side as him, and overall I admire his aggressive interviewing style. O'Reilly's book "The No Spin Zone: Confrontations with the Powerful and Famous in America" seems to be an attempt to translate his TV style into book form. I think it's only partially successful.
The book is broken up into several chapters, each one devoted to a specific topic (offensive music lyrics, Jesse Jackson's finances, etc.). Each chapter contains transcripts of confrontational interviews conducted by O'Reilly, together with his commentary. O'Reilly admits that these interviews are edited. The setup of the book seems unfair; O'Reilly ALWAYS gets the last word! He thus comes off as a bullying control [person], rather than as a proponent of real debate. And that's unfortunate, because in my viewing of O'Reilly on TV I've always felt that in general he is a fair man. Of course, maybe the chapters' structure would have been more effective if O'Reilly's closing commentaries didn't descend into heavy-handed preachiness, as they tend to do.
Despite the annoying structure, the book does contain a lot of interesting and relevant material. One chapter contains a fascinating account of events from O'Reilly's pre-"Factor" journalism career. Many of the dialogues are also intriguing. Don't miss, for example, his exchange with George W. Bush on the death penalty. The book contains some surprises; for example, I got the sense that O'Reilly had real respect for activist Al Sharpton despite the men's differences.
Of course, there is also some silly material, such as his fantasy about being murdered by Hilary Clinton's Secret Service guards. And O'Reilly's introduction, in which he sets himself up as the champion of the common man, sounds a bit over-the-top and even egotistical.
Another thing I didn't like about the book was the fact that O'Reilly often makes claims without providing sufficient documentation to back it up. "The No Spin Zone" is a quick and interesting read, but it strikes me as a book primarily suited for hard-core O'Reilly fans.
