Comment: I own an original first edition of this book, which I scrounged up after first reading some excerpts in a book of writers who were allegedly insane and then researching Mary MacLane -- including some historical information from the Montana Historical Society. This is one of those wholly odd books that one sort of just needs to experience. The is-it-fact-or-fiction diary of a 19 year old girl in Butte, Montana at the turn of the century, The Story of Mary MacLane went on to garner raves and revulsion alike.
