Summary: What Avi Arad recently said.....
Comment: Avi Arad, the man who is leading Marvel Studios to get movies made on various Marvel Charecters recently said that Thor is among those charecters they hope to get to the big screen in the next few years, Looking at both the Walt Simoson Thor stories as well as the earlier Stan Lee/Jack Kirby issues, it's pretty clear that Thor is translatable to the movies with a lot of rich story material to tap into. The Warriors Three, Sif, Beta Ray Bill , it's all here. I think this would be one of the most challening Marvel movies to attempt, but it can be done.

Summary: This is the third book
Comment: Amazon got the cover wrong (from the second) and the reviews are mixed up but this is the third book.
now Walt Simonson's Thor is a grand epic, i never noticed till reading them in these collected editions how it's not just a story arc and then finished but one long story, has soem really great moments and is a must buy for any Thor Fans or just a fan of wonderful stories.

Summary: Simonson redefines Thor
Comment: I remember the Beta Ray Bill stories coming out as a high schooler all of those years ago. They were visually compelling enough to get me to buy Thor, which at the time was a comic book that I had all but written off. Upon reading them, I found an intricate story with the kind of rich characterization you rarely saw in comics then or now. It was the kind of tale the kept me going back to the comic shop to see if the next issue had come in. If you hadn't already guessed, I was never a fan of the mighty Thor in my day. There were just too many "thees" and "thous" for me to get beyond. It all seemed so pompous and out of touch with why I was into comics - for more complex and mature stories like the Daredevil/Elektra epic and the Dark Phoenix saga. Thor simply couldn't deliver that, right?
That's when Walt Simonson came along. First of all, I've always found his art is superb, although I know that some people don't share that opinion. Second, the introduction of Beta Ray Bill and his story is a masterstroke. Third, the developing tension and complexity of the Surtur plotline is outstanding. Exactly what the thinking comic follower was looking for. I don't particularly care for the weird frog storyline in the third book, but that's just me.
Be warned, though, that the Simonson Thor reprints are in three books, and there is some confusion about which is which on most sites, including Amazon. The covers of the books give titles that are different from what is listed on here. I did get all three via Amazon, but I don't think they are all listed now. Book 1 is Thor Visionaries: Walter Simonson. Book 2 is Walter Simonson: Thor Legends 2. Book 3 is Walter Simonson: Thor Legends 3. Even now, I'm not sure which of the three books I'm putting this review on, but they're all outstanding. I can't wait until my two sons are old enough to appreciate them.
