Summary: Need a cozy read? Pick this one!!!
Comment: Most novels, IMHO, are the same story told different ways. In THE SUNDAY WIFE, the reader is refreshened to a new story and a cast of characters very familiar but not.
Pastor Ben and his wife, Dean, move to a larger church and you are behind the scenes in this book rather than in the congregation! It shows an insight on what goes on with this Pastor and his wife - their seperate life together and their life in the church.
Ben's vision is a selfish one and his attitude towards his wife is appalling throughout the book. Dean becomes friends with Augusta who brings, IMHO, makes Dean stronger than she ever was before.
An amazing read - a powerful one and one that should be read and savored.

Summary: A soap opera in print
Comment: This book is three-quarters soap opera topped off with one quarter of sickeningly sweet southern syrup. I say its like a soap opera in thhe way that you can watch your favorite SO once every 3 to 12 months and pick up the plot in a matter of minutes. Or you can watch it everyday and still get the same effect. The book could have benefitted from an editor cutting at least the 1st 75 pages into one or two chapters. The whole book could have easily been condensed by half. My opinion of this read: spare me the melodrama.

Summary: Shallow characters, contrived situations
Comment: I was excited to read this book because a few people had recommended it to me. I also saw it as a "light" read, which was perfect for me to read on vacation. [...]
Basically, the problem with this novel is twofold: the characters are all walking stereotypes and the plot is so contrived that I could see what was going to happen from the very first chapter. These characters are so one-dimensional that I felt embarassed for the author when I read it: you have the highly stereotypical gay couple; the fortune-reading gypsy woman; the minister who is such a sanctimonious creep that you can't imagine why anyone would marry him; the wild-child Augusta; and a host of other people who are not given multiple facets to their personalities.
The plot was just as bad; what the author saw as foreshadowing or subtle clues instead simply spelled out what was going to happen from almost page 1. [...] The dialogue is so unconvincing, it entrenches each character deeper into his or her stereotype rather than bringing any character to life.
I gave this book 2 stars because it kept me entertained in much the same way that a Lifetime movie would: you are oddly fascinated by its melodrama but appalled with yourself for indulging yourself in such an awful waste of time. Please spare yourself this experience and watch something on Lifetime instead; it will only take you 2 hours and you can fold laundry or do your taxes while you watch it.
