Summary: The best DL novel yet!
Comment: This book had everything that makes a dragonlance novel great, magic, gods, heroes, villains, and - of course - dragons. The Graygem, Irda, Knights of Takhisis, Chaos, and Raistlin were all tied in to one plot masterfully. However, I was displeased to see the bad ratings others were giving the book just because it ended the Krynn as we know it. Just because this book forced the series to move on does not mean that the quality of the novel is not excellent. Even though I was very depressed about the occuences in the book, such as the departure of the gods and magic, my two favorite elements, I do have to admit that this was the best dragonlance novel I have read. I found myself getting caught up in the roles of these characters equally or more than I had been with the original characters in the Chronicles. Weis and Hickman, however sad it was for themselves and the readers, brilliantly brought about a new twist in the world of Krynn

Rating: 2
Summary: Disappointing
Comment: As a longtime fan and follower of the Dragonlance Saga, I can only call this 4th and heavily belated installment of Chronicles to be a major disappointment. Gone is the sense of purpose and adventure that made the original Chronicles and Legends trilogies so gripping. In its place is this, which almost reads like a comic book, with characters coming back to life and being taken away just as quickly. Most of the "offspring" characters developed in the Tales stories are killed off rather quickly, and other characters like Palin and Steele are not dealt with well either. Add to that the almost total destruction of the Krynn we all know from prior novels, and this is one fantasy disaster.

For my part, I've tried to forget this was ever written, and until better comes along am sticking with the Legends trilogy as the final major chapter involving the heroes of the lance.
