Summary: Attractive and Well Laid Out, But Gender Issues do Exist
Comment: As a librarian, I too noticed very early on the gender division in this book. Our purpose as a librarian is to look critically at the materials we put on our shelves, not to deny children books. The book is attractive, and I have no complaints with the girls doing one thing and the boys another, but it does seem to be very tradtional in the activities. I feel it is important to both boys and girls of especially that age be allowed to express interest in all activities. I think we need to be aware of these issues to raise or help raise well adjusted, critically thinking children. We must help them to be aware of the many possibilities their future can hold and the books they read as small children should reflect those possibilities. This book didn't rate high with helping to do that. People may say that children this young will not be effected by messages of gender typing, but as we should know children are great at modeling behavior.(just watch them play) I hope that this review helps to reflect what I saw in this book.

Summary: My little girl's favorite book!
Comment: Pay no attention to the review left by the so called "Children's Librarian". I feel sorry for the kids at that library. Her politcal agenda is obviously more important than the smile this book brings to a child's face. This book is WONDERFUL! It's colorful, cheery and every child at my daughter's preschool loves it. I definitely recommend it.

Summary: Gender stereotyping resurfaces
Comment: After reading this book I was dismayed at the blatant gender stereotyping displayed. The boys are pictured actively--they drive a car, build with blocks play in the backyard with a teepee. The girls are pictured sleeping, dressed in funny socks, dressed in tutus and dancing around a maypole. Not one review mentioned this abysmal flaw. I have discarded the copies bought for my library.
