Summary: Useful, but unrefined
Comment: Everyone below me has already pointed out the number of errors and typos in this book. I can deal with the occasional typo, but some -- such as a table of attributes for the CFGRID tag misspelling "ROWHEADERS" as "ROWHEADER", or code listing 28.5 replacing random letters with double-quotes -- are unforgivable and confusing to say the least.
Some chapters are also placed apparently out-of-order, or present techniques without presenting any useful applications for them. Chapter 25 outlines how to build an online commerce application but does so entirely with custom tags, an advanced feature that goes entirely unexplained in this book. Similarly, Chapter 22 explains how arrays and structures are created in ColdFusion, but no examples of how these might be used effectively are given -- because until you read about application templates in Chapter 26, there are no such uses.
Nevertheless, this is a great source of information for people getting started with ColdFusion and who want to learn how to use the various features as quickly as possible. Just be forewarned that if you use this book as your *only* source, you'll be undereducated at best and confused at worst. Allaire's online documentation, which comes installed with Studio 4.0, is essential for filling in the gaps this book leaves behind.

Summary: Good for the neophyte, but...
Comment: If you're new to the world of server-side programming, databases, and dynamic web pages in general, this can be a quite useful book. It not only covers ColdFusion, but also teaches you how server-side languages work, how a relational database works, and gives you a nice high-level approach to creating web-based applications. It's quite well written, explaining things clearly and giving you some fairly practical examples. (At least, for the first two-thirds of the book it does. Around chapter 25, as many people have noted, it starts to degenerate into a bunch of code that isn't particularly well documented and uses functions that haven't been covered or explained. But up until then, it's quite good.)
All of this is great -- if you need to learn such things. If, however, you're an experienced developer already familiar with languages such as ASP or PHP and just need a fast intro to ColdFusion, it can be pretty cumbersome trying to scan through dozens of pages of how an HTML form works just so you can find the tidbit of information that tells you how ColdFusion deals with form submissions. Instead, I might recommend you take a look at the "Certified ColdFusion Developer Study Guide" which is probably the closest thing that exists right now to an O'Reilly "...in a Nutshell" book.

Summary: Garbage!
Comment: If you interested in learning Cold Fusion, don't waste your time or money on this book. Difficult to understand and poorly written. What a dissapointment!...
