Summary: Bad choice !!!
Comment: I spent a few days going through this book and I found it rather confusing. No picture or diagram when explaining the flash interface or menu items (or whatever else), only text.
Lots of "if you know high-level programming like C , C++ ... " At one point I almost felt like this book is written FOR the people that knows C / C++ ...
Unacceptable amount of typing errors, confusions, and some times the way the sentense is being written. (maybe just me)
Found a few errors with the sample questions, which could cause serious amount of confusion and frustration to readers. Other than that I found that the sample questions is somewhat useful.
This book does not talk about Macromedia Generator Flash Authoring Extension, which indicated from Macromedia could be a part of the exam.
I would not recommand Flash developers to buy this book unless they had advnaced experience with Flash, so they can spot the errors and confusion.
A book I highly recommand before this one would be the Flash 5 Bible. Very detail and it talks everything you need to know about Flash.
This book does serve the use of 'reviewing' but not 'teaching', so I recommand developers only read this book with good Flash experience.

Summary: Friendly, but poor preparation for the exam
Comment: I had little sophisticated experience with Flash 5, having worked mostly with Flash MX. But I thought it would be fun to take the Flash 5 Developer Exam the last month it was offered (Mach 2003). So I bought this book and memorized most of the answers. I took the exam in a funky Indian-run testing shop in East London, and got a score of 51%. How humiliating! At least a quarter of the questions were about programming syntax and algebraic equations, none of which I was prepared for.
Surely, Macromedia should offer a refund to those of us who bought the book and took the test under these false pretenses.

Summary: Just Took The Exam and... I Didn't Pass
Comment: Like other reviewers, I agree that this book has interesting, limited information about Flash 5. The exam though, is about 50% about XML, browser integration, the loadVariables command, which are covered in two whimpy chapters. The exam also had a question about PocketPCs: Where was that covered in the book?
