Summary: Growing Up Fatherless
Comment: Unfortunately, many, many of the people I know, regardless of age, are the products of a divorced family. They have their own set of issues & angst which they will carry with them their whole lives. As a result of the divorce in their family, & the mobility of American society, many of them basically grew up fatherless. It's a situation in the lives of millions that will only continue to impact our culture in deeper & deeper ways as time passes.

Also, even though there are those in the circles of my life whose parents remained together, many of those people grew up with fathers who were distant, non-involved, abusive, workaholics, or just non-players in the lives of their children. These children, in effect, have grown up fatherless in many ways.

(It's a pitiful thing when you have to really think to name someone whose relationships with their parents is gives a semblance of being what could be termed, "normal.")

I believe this book by Mike Nappa can be more than a little helpful for anyone who has a fractured or non-existent relationship with their biological fathers. It addresses real world applications that can help stem the tide of this epidemic.

Now I will admit to you that when my wife, Lynn, handed me this book, I was a bit skeptical. I figured this would be one of those insipid, shallow little tomes that quoted lots of scripture & be long on preaching & short on practical handholds to alleviate this painful part of this culture. I was wrong!

One of the basic problems people have who have grown up fatherless is that they have no way of conceptualizing what a father should be like. Nappa uses the basic truth that God wants to relate most of all to us as a Perfect Father. Here's list of the chapters to give you an idea as to how Nappa pulls off explaining this...
