Summary: Top Notch Translation From a Top Notch Professor
Comment: I had the pleasure of being professor Ahl's student for an entire year studying both Greek history and a great deal of ancient and modern tragedy under him including these plays. Unlike many translators , Ahl makes painstaking efforts to capture not only the meaning of the original text but also the "feel" of the text which oftentimes includes a great deal of wordplay and many other subtleties that translators are unable or unwilling to capture. Given that, these plays by Seneca, especially his "remake" of Euripides Trojan Women, is some of the best drama out there. These plays should be read by all , not just those interested in the Classics, for the timeless themes that they address. I highly recommend this particular series of plays and all other translations by professor Ahl.
