Summary: Not Vintage Alexie
Comment: Since I am a fan of Sherman Alexie's, and have read all of his previous works, I found this book disappointing. If you have read any of his other works you will note some redundancy, and perhaps be left with a sort of "deja vu" feeling.
While one or two are noteworthy, the stories are milking the same Alexie themes, now getting tired. His displeasure with the "greyness of Seattle weather" has gotten old. He has exhaustively explored the impact of young men on strong women and a matrilineal culture. His incorporation of sexual innuendo and humor have grown puerile. And, he is beating the basketball theme into the ground.
I think it is time for Alexie to take a hiatus to ponder and perhaps devote his considerable talent to explore some of his other experiences...or to take the time to have some. The themes in this book are like orange juice concentrate to which 4 cans of water have been added.

Summary: Alexie's best
Comment: I have read a few of Sherman's books, and this is by far his best. I saw him read a few live, and many of them are powerful enough to make you cry: it's rare to get that from a book. There's so much feeling, and care put into these stories, if you're an Alexie fan this book is definitely what you're looking for.

Summary: Every story worth the price of the book
Comment: I am a new reader of Sherman Alexie's work. Wow, have I been missing out. These stories are powerful, funny and right on true to life. I have read 6 stories so far and will surely hate to finish the 9th one. Alexie's other works have been added to my wish list.
