Summary: Not the GREATEST knock knock jokes ever
Comment: I wouldn't say that ALL of the jokes inside this book are the "greatest" as the title implies. There are some very good ones, but there are just as many bad. I was quite disappointed. I was an English major in college and still can't figure out the word puns intended on some of the knock knocks. I would say some of the jokes are definitely a stretch and I'd imagine most younger children wouldn't get the jokes. Try My First Book of Knock-Knock Jokes by Tad Hills instead if you want something nice and simple that makes sense for younger children.

Summary: Corny knock-knock jokes
Comment: I am interested in knock-knock jokes first as cultural teaching materials - they are a particularly English/American form of humor that Chinese students find fresh and clever, once they figure out what's going on. My second reason for interest is because of the plays on similar-sounding words - I'm a phonetics instructor. Just how close do two words or phrases have to be, or how different can they be, to work in a knock-knock joke? Some knock-knock jokes really push the limits, and are just not that successful - and there are quite of few of these in this collection. Sample of what I consider a pretty good kkj: Knock-knock! Who's there? Thayer. Thayer who? Thayer sorry or I'm leaving. One that laid an egg: ...Dwight. Dwight who? Dwight as rain. Some I don't even get, like: ...Owls. Owls who? You got it right this time. This is a very casual kind of kkj collection, not extremely carefully selected or edited. I suppose it's OK for grade school kids looking for some new kkj's to try out on their classmates, and I did find some usable ones for my teaching. But frankly, I found a better selection on the Internet.

Comment: Great for the budding comedians. Knock knock jokes are another fun way to do interactive reading with your child. A colorful book all around.
