Summary: Stargirl......A MUST READ
Comment: The book Stargirl was one of the most inspiring novels I have ever read. Stargirl Caraway took MAHS high school by storm. The ukulele, the happy birthday songs, the rat, being home schooled, the pioneer dresses, and her wonderful giving spirit changed MAHS forever. This story is told from a schoolmate's point of view. Stargirl plays her ukulele and sings to people on their birthdays. Stargirl tries out for cheerleading and makes it. She became popular, but not for long. At basketball games she is always cheering, she even cheers for the other team! Stargirl starts getting made fun of at school for being different. Stargirl feels others pains even more than her own. Her giving and heartwarming personality makes this book great. This inspirational and touching novel is a must read for anyone who wishes they could muster up the courage to act a little different.

Summary: Very special
Comment: Originally I borrowed this from the library. Halfway through it I bought my own copy, and one for my niece.
This is a story about a girl called Stargirl. She has been home tutored for most of her life and has no idea of conformity. She is herself, through and through. She wears pioneer type dresses, no make up, meditates, knows peoples birthdays, makes people feel good about themselves.
At the start the majority of the school applauds her individuality and even flatters her when they copy her odd ways. But slowly they see her individuality as a hindrance and begin to turn on her. Leo, the 16 year old narrator of the book finds himself as her boyfriend, and as such is completely alienated from the rest of the school. It dawns on him that he has to choose, Stargirl or his friends and respect.
This is probably one of the best books I have read for an awful long time, and I read a lot of books! I am keeping my copy on my bookshelf for my children to read, to teach them to applaud individuality, not discourage.

Summary: It just never seemed to end.
Comment: I hated this book. It was poorly written. It was overly dramatic and lacked plot twists or anything else to break the never ending fog of this book. StarGirl goes from endearing to annoying very quickly because of her purposely one sided personallity. Leo was too self-rightous. By the time you made it to the end, luckily it only took me one day, the only reason you cared whether they end up together is so that we will be saved from a sequal. It all seemed like an episode of 7th Heaven on drugs.
