Summary: A nice but flawed little book
Comment: 1. Sontag's grasp of Zen and the Buddha is slight at points, good at other points.

2. Loaded with rhetorical questions to which the answers are obvious -- a kind of transparent litany.

3. Protesteth too much? (Re salvaging reason.) He is a philosopher, yet Christian. To whom is he speaking? Out of what side of his mouth? When? Who is looking over his shoulder?

4. Much repetition.

Beyond these caveats, it is a nice little book. Much common sense; good grasp of authentic Christianity; many gems of insight here and there (e.g., pages 56, 46-47 (bottom/top), 66-67, 68, 74, 82, 83).
