Summary: The Most Comprehensive Beatles Book Ever
Comment: Ever since they broke up 33 years ago, The Beatles' career has been dragged through the mud thanks to the deaths of Harrison and Lennon, wannabe/rip - offs like Oasis, and through film with the fictional VH1 schlock "Two Of Us". But "The Beatles Anthology" is undoubtedly the most comprehensive Beatles book ever written.

This is the first book especially comprised of updated commentary with the two surviving Beatles, the late but never forgotton Harrison and Lennon, and such Beatles associates like Sir George Martin and Derek Taylor. Accompanying these insightful, often funny, often poignant interviews are copies of important letters written by The Beatles and record company dittoes and tons of beautiful pictures that perfectly capsulize the different stages of the Beach Boys' career.

This book is probably the definitive Beatles book. However, if you have back problems, are pregnant or have arthritis but you want to own this heavy book, I reccommend the paperback edition.

Summary: The Most Comprehensive Collection of Its Kind
Comment: This is an awesome anthology! A book written about the Beatles by the Beatles, what more could a Beatles' fan ask for? It begins by introducing each of the Beatles, giving detailed events which occurred in their lives up to the point at which each became a member of the Beatles. Moreover, the book is written in chronological order by year - from 1960 to 1970, and describes in detail how the band was formulated, the changes in membership that the band went through up to the point of the final group with Ringo included.

The text is blended well with writing and pictures, drawings, song lyrics, paintings, sketches, music composition pages, etc. So while reading, the reader is very much engaged. Each of the Beatles, or Beatles' manager, producer, recorder, public relations specialist, etc. describes their 'take' on certain events from press conferences, recordings, songs being written, tours, studio time, interviews, situations odd and strange, people met along the way, marriages, divorces, children, everything one could imagine which occurred in the ten year period covered in the book.

The book includes rare photos, opinions, pictures of letters written which have never been seen until this book, recording schedules, etc. This is a definitive Beatles collectors item and any Beatles fan should not be without it.

Summary: Like chatting with them: precious!
Comment: Having being born after The Beatles broke up my discovery of the band's work occurred progressively in my high school years, as I got exposed to the bulk of their work and exploded when I got to College and first listened to the last leg of their recordings (after Sgt. Pepper). This alone would suffice for anyone to have enough respect for their music, however the Anthology book opened up a whole new dimension that was unfamiliar to me.

Going chronologically from their beginnings, the book is structured year by year, intercalating comments by each of them (George Martin, the fifth Beatle included, as well as several other people involved with them), flowing in a way that feels as if you were sitting with them in your living room, sipping a cup of tea (or coffee, if you prefer) while listening to the fab four talk about their lives while they were together. This effect is so impeccable that it's what I love most about the book.

Now, that's obviously not all. The 368 pages of the book (yes, it has 368, and the last one is a very Lennon-like "handwritten" statement saying "By hook or by crook I'll be last in this book -John Lennon") are beautifully packaged along with tons of pictures, copies of letters, posters, etc. that complement magnificently the already outstanding document that the "chat" between them represents.

Three years after its release it remains an awesome gift and an endless source of information. I am sure it will remain that way for a very long time.
