Summary: Very well written - does cover milling
Comment: These books are very throrough and cover grinding, lathe operation, drilling, milling, etc. However, you need to get both volumes. Volumes 1 and 2 are different books, not different version of the same book.

Summary: Doesn't cover milling
Comment: This book gives thorough coverage to metal cutting, drilling and especially lathe operations, but I was very disappointed that the book doesn't cover milling at all since that's what I bought it for. It does cover some topics that are of interest to the milling machine operator such as layout techniques, some (but not enough) applicable work holding methods and the section on the jig borer is very useful. If you are looking for lathe information, you will love this book. If you want information on using a milling machine, you should really look elsewhere even though there are some topics of use.

Summary: The best reference books I have...
Comment: These two volumes tell me more than the other 7 or 8 books on machine shop that I have. Written very clearly and concisely, extremely easy to understand for the amount of information it puts out. Explains many of the details of machineshop and how to sharpen your own cutting tools, how to thread, many of the common types of shop machines and how to use them. This is the best shop book that I have read to date
