Summary: Reiser and Rosen Describe Medicine as a Human Experience
Comment: "The text is 16 years old, but the message is timeless: medical providers must not forget the humanity of their patients. In this age of managed care, providers are challenged to balance economics with quality service. The initial motivations for entering medicine may be forgotten in this atmosphere. Reiser and Rosen's text addresses this challenge, as well as the organization of the medical training itself. I am a physician assistant student, and I have seen others training in medicine numbed and even bitter in a system that is supposed to be training us to be caring individuals. Reiser and Rosen's text allowed me to revisit my motivations for entering medicine and offers many insights into how I can live up to the expectations I have set for myself in providing quality health care."
