Summary: Great book on loving discipline
Comment: After actually reading the entire book, it is clear that Dr. Dobson promotes a loving discipline that allows children to feel loved and accepted with a perfect combination of freedom and safety. What I like most about this book is its focus on nurturing imperfect yet cooperative and loving children. It amazes me that some people actually believe this book promotes abuse and harsh treatment of children. ... This book is for those people who really care for their children and their future. It is a perfect book that mixes common sense with sound professional advice based on years of research and experience. It is true that Dr. Dobson is not against corporal punishment. He stresses the appropriate use of it in limited circumstances. It is refreshing to read a book that is well balanced in this way. He resists the temptation to be cave in to the political correctness idea of no spanking, yet he draws the line and openly rebukes those who use corporal punishment as the chief way to discipline. If you are looking for a well balanced approach on discipline that focuses on love, nurturance, communication, and responsibility; this book is a must!

Summary: Speaking from the heart
Comment: As a teacher I read this book for discipline in my classroom. If you truly read Dr. Dobson's book he is talking about respect for your fellow human being. He is not talking about abusing your child, although I could see how an extremist could read the book that way. Dr. Dobson is showing you, as a parent, how to teach your child right and wrong...basic fundamentals. I see too many children, whose parents have tried the "hands off" approach, become violent and lash out at their world. These children have no boundaries and, when I see them as teens in my classroom, they are often angry at the world and at their parents. As a parent I can and have applied his advice. It has worked beautifully thus far. Read this book with an open mind, and read it carefully. You can learn a lot from his words.

Summary: This Book is a Godsend!
Comment: Thanks God I bought this book when my kids were young, cause it taught em real fast that if theyre going to sass me, theyre going to get hit real bad. They learned real quick. Only my oldest, Tommy, didn't get the message. So I consulted Dr. Dobsons book, and then I smacked Tommy good with the ironing board. He never gave me a problem again. This book works terrific!
I visit them in jail now and then, and they always real respectful to me. Thank you Dr. Dobson.
