Summary: A Helpful book
Comment: I was recommended this book by Sam Laing because he told me that many men often don't know who they are. This book was helpful to help me see my own and other's personality types. It helped me to see them, which was great to get out of it, but that's it. Reading the book, I wasn't blown away and he doesn't get real deep either. Later, though I feel like I know the temperaments pretty well.
I recommend it for others, it's a good book. It has helped me deal with myself better and helped me see what the guys that I take care of need. And I think we will be closer because of it. I would like to see a disciple write a book about the four temperaments, though I think it's use can nullify the Bible. The Bible's all you need, but I guess like any other DPI book, it can help.

Summary: Simplistic and Irritating
Comment: I work in the field of personality study, and I bought this book in the hope that I could recommend it to my clients. Unfortunately, I cannot.
I began this book with great expectations, unfortunately they were not fulfilled. I found that Tim LaHaye's conclusions left a lot to be desired. I was extremely annoyed at his propensity to make sweeping statements that were not backed up by any research or evidence, and I felt that his review of the four temperaments was simplistic and amateurish.
If I had lower self-esteem, I would have gone out and shot myself after reading the chapter on my personality type. This book has a very strong focus on the negative aspects of each of the four temperaments, which I found rather condemning.
A key aspect of personality study that is missed in this book is that each person displays characteristics of each of the four temperament types, but in varying degrees. Tim LaHaye's either/or approach misses this, and it results in gross generalisations.
There are much better books on temperament on the market, for instance "Understanding Your Child's Temperament" by William B. Carey. Although written from a parenting perspective, it can give you a good understanding of your own temperament if you read it with your own behaviour in mind. Also, try "The New Birth Order Book" by Dr. Kevin Leman, which looks at temperament from a different perspective. If you're stuck on Tim LaHaye, I would recommend "Understanding the Male Temperament," which deals with the four temperament types in a much more professional and well-rounded fashion. Although written with men in mind, the section on personality type is more general and will give you a better understanding than "Transformed Temperaments."
