Title: Airlines of the United States since 1914 by R. E. G Davies ISBN: 0-87474-381-8 Publisher: Smithsonian Institution Press Pub. Date: 1982 Format: Unknown Binding |
Average Customer Rating: 5 (1 review)
Rating: 5
Summary: the finest collection of aviation photos available
Comment: I think the G in "REG Davies" stands for God. He is The Authority in these matters.
And who woulda believed the old Post Office Department created the airlines? What a story it is! You have to get to the 1960's before this heavy book starts to sag. By then, who cares? You are now so educated, you've had so much fun with the photos; the last part isn't all that important anyway.
There is a picture of the very first foreign mail sack arriving in America. Eddie Hubbard flew it from Vancouver to Seattle on March 3, 1919; it rode on the lap of William Boeing.
Originally published in 1972, this book will never be out of date.
