Summary: I finally found the book I wanted
Comment: I thought this book had gone out of print, but was very pleased to find it. Although the pronunciations may seem strange to some, they are probably because of regional differences. My children (8 and 10 years old) just completed a pronunciation class, and the pronunciations in this book confirm what they were taught. Also, I found that when I my children use the pronunciations, their speech sounds prett(I)er and more refined.

Summary: Appalling errors
Comment: When I began using this book, I questioned my pronunciations. It turns out, there are a number of errors in this book. This is an appalling state of affairs for a reference book put out by the Merriam-Webster company. Where was the editor? ... This is also 50 years old! Go with the Longman Pronunciation Dictionary. It is far superior and was just updated in 2000.
