Comment: I recently read Billy Gilman's interview on CMT in which he said that his all time favorite book (so far) was The Prince of Whales. - I am delighted that he has chosen my son's book as his favorite. The Prince of Whales was first published in 1985 so that makes them about the same age.

So now we have Toby, The Dream Singer in the Whale world harmonizing with Billy Gilman who is singing Mattie Stepanek's Heart Songs! What a trio they make!!
And what a joy! Thank you so much!

Comment: I have a personal interest in The Prince of Whales and over the years since it was first published , it always seemed to have a positive influence on the thousands of readers who have enjoyed it. I am fairly biased being R.L.'s mother but I must use this letter to thank Billy Gilman for naming The Prince of Whales as his all time (so far) favorite book in a recent 20 question interview with CMT. I am so happy that he enjoyed reading it - but his enjoyment couldn't equal our joy in listening to him sing Mattie's Heart Songs.

Summary: A wonderful book for young minds...
Comment: This book captured my brain for years. I don't know how it ever got away from me, but I loved this book with all my heart. It was probably the book that most influenced my lifelong love of reading. It's always a pleasure to revisit such an old friend. I still remember much of the story, and I'm certain that I could read it now and be just as engrossed. If you want your child to become a reader, and he or she shows a bend towards fantasy, or is a whale lover, this book ought to cinch the deal.
