Summary: This take on the story of shangri-la was very intriguing
Comment: I was assigned to read this book in english class and to my surprise became very much intrigued with the authors view of the setting, Shangri-la, as a utopia. This story combines examples of ritual culture and mystery and suspense for a very non-american experience. Though little humor is combined in with this complex plot, half of its charm is that you just want to keep reading it until you dicovery the secrets of Shangri-la that are hidden in the text. I enjoyed this book more so once i had finished reading it because the first couple of chapters are slow to the point, but beyond that it is a story that will leave you with a higher knowledge of the traditions of Shangri-la and a semi-whimsical feeling when you read about the almost fairy tale ways of life the characters in the story lead.
