Summary: A fine companion to his book "The Blood Covenant"
Comment: Once again, Dr. Trumbull shows his capacity for research and his ability to bring what could be an arcane subject to life. This in-depth look at the Threshold Covenant from ancient times around the world to the present day (late 19th Century for Trumbull) is one of the best books written on this subject even though it was first written in the late 1800's. That this book is a true classic is shown by the fact that no one, in the last 150 years, has produced a book equal to it. Excellent resource for understanding this fundamental covernant, the Threshold Covenant

Summary: The Blessings of Balance
Comment: If your considering this book, then you've probably already read his book, The Blood Covenant. The basic difference between the two is that blood covenant deals with the relationship side of a covenant in which two become one by the shedding of blood. Or in other words, the two covenanting parties enter into an agreement on an equal basis (e.g., what's mine is yours and what's yours is mine). However, a threshold covenant is slightly different in that while it acknowledges the parties as equal, it also brings out the governmental responsibilities of each and establishes a chain of command. For example, in a marriage, which is properly a threshold covenant and not purely a blood covenant as we often confuse, both parties are equal in terms of sharing all things, but different in terms of the responsibilities and roles that they play - and it is in defining these specific roles as husband/father, wife/mother that the threshold covenant emphasizes - an aspect which is generally overlooked by the church at large. And while it may appear that the differences are contradictory, Trumbull illustrates that in fact they are not, but rather serve to strengthen one another if used properly.
