Through expulsions, splits, and fusions they coalesced a genuine communist party. They were communists who proved their mettle not only in theory but in the mass victorious labor battles, including in Minneapolis in the 1930s. They consistently stood against the coming second world war and spoke out in favor of the defeat of the U.S. ruling class. Through this, they sought to turn the imperialist slaughter into world-wide revolt of working people in each imperialist country against their indigenous ruling class, which would be key to regenerating the Soviet Union by ridding it of the Stalinist infection.
