Summary: Unified Science
Comment: With Dr George Talbott " Philosophy And Unified Science"(PAUS), the student in Philosophy will (re)discover the foundations of Physics. With the help of essays, the reader is taken into a journey from classical mechanics to electromagnetism through relativity and quantum mechanics, nuclear physics and thermodynamics, just to say a few.
In the essay on electromagnetism, you will undestand the various unit systems used such as the emu, esu, Gaussian and mks and their relationships. You will also discover the classical Bohr's model of the atom and its possible improvement by Dr Talbott.
You will understand the strength of group theory in modern physics with the example of SU(3) and its "mapping" for the supermultiplet.
Developments in mathematics enlight similarities in Physics.
You will be shown how the oscillary processes are perhaps the most fundamental characteristics of nature, even in chemistry. Theorical work on this subject was done by Turing in 1952...Physicists seem to discover those processes in chemistry with the Belousov- Zabotinskii reaction in 1968 and the Brusselator theorical papers of 1967 on spatial instability in homogeneous chemical systems. With the book of Dr Talbott, I discover that those experimental results were already available in the first part of the 20th. Dr Talbott cites the works of Lotka and Herniak (in 1910 and 1920! ) and Frank-Kamenetsky. Various related topics are addressed. You will revisit the famous Godel's Theorem.
Psychology is not forgotten and the works of Leibnitz and Korzybski support your exploration of Science. Even if you do not have a "strong background" in all areas, the technical appendix wil give you some insights into complex topics such as curvature tensor, group theory, Laplace's equation, lagrange and hamilton operators... A complete computer appendix is given with applications.
You will discover the Alchemy of Physics with Dr Talbott in " Philosophy And Unified Science" (PAUS).
