Summary: Thanks for giving us the UNCENSORED Spurgeon! FANTASTIC!
Comment: At last, a publisher has given us the REAL Spurgeon's priceless, too-hot-to-handle "Rome remarks." As an avid reader of the old Baptist battler I can assure you that these are only the tip of the iceberg, but they are quite well-selected in any case.

I have always been greatly amused at the "editing" of Spurgeon's work with regard to Romanism-- among other things-- by the "Powerhouse" Evangelical Publishing Establishment in the U.S. (Check out the censored and rewritten "Morning and Evening" devotionals, for example.) These publishers' genial efforts not to offend Romanists and Ecumenicals would doubtless raise the considerable ire of old Charlie himself-- which they themselves must SURELY realize! Hypocrisy can be quite interesting in it's more "devout and holy" manifestations!

Here, though, is the unexpurgated wit of a gospel preacher who was so bold and outspoken that the Media STILL has to silence him! HA!

This book is a real corker, and 100% FULL of real, biblical, Christian ZEAL!

AMEN!-- Al

Summary: Wonderful resurrection of Spurgeon's Protestant wit
Comment: How refreshing to see in print a wonderful compilation of Spurgeon's comments on the Church of Rome. Of course, Spurgeon lived in a time when the horrors inflicted upon Protestants by Rome were still a fresh part of collective memory. The writings in this volume serve to remind us that ideas have consequences, and the threat to peace and civil society from the whitewashed tombs of Rome are just as real in our day as in Spurgeon's. Many would like to distract us from the historical truth and blind us to the realities of an institution gone mad with power, influence and ill-gotten gain. As George Santayana once said, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it" - a lesson clear in the words of this great hero of the faith. Mr. Kauffman has done us a great service through his research. If this effort is a waste of time, many of us wish he would do more of it.

Summary: Pathetic disinterrment of brainless anti-Catholic invective
Comment: Spurgeon wrote many good things. This is not among them. However, Kauffman (who has no life apart from savaging Catholics) has pulled the moldering corpse of Spurgeon's dumbest and ugliest anti-Catholic snipes so that little minds and littler hearts can pick the scabs of anti-Catholicism and drink the running pus. Weird and sad to watch a young heart like Kauffman's consume itself with such bitterness.
