Summary: a nice way to start
Comment: When my husband resumed hunting recently, I wanted to be sure we ate all that he harvested. This cookbook is a great way to start learning some lovely recipes (not too complicated at all) for cooking game. It is not an encompassing book which suggests wines and describes harvesting and ageing and butchering techniques. But once you have the game at home, it is a very good way to start some delicious meals. Especially tasty are the last two recipes which can be used for any red game like elk, deer, antelope: game with dijon cranberry sauce or sweet and sour zinfandel sauce. There are also some very tasty pheasant and bird recipes we have enjoyed.
I have passed this book on to several hunter's wives I am friends with and we all enjoy many of the recipes. It is a nice way to start or supplement your game cooking recipe collection and, importantly, it is not complex with a lot of obscure ingredients for the beginner. It also would be a great place to start for non-hunters who are interested in using game from specialty markets because of its protein and low fat benefits.
If you are moving on up with game cooking, then Manikowski's book is a good place to try next.

Summary: No wine recommended?
Comment: Although I'm sure the recipes in the book are excellent, the book is strictly about cooking w/ wine. I was somewhat amazed these winery region chefs did not recommend a specific wine to drink w/ the meal. The book would have been much improved and more complete with that recommendation.
