Summary: Berdoll discredits a masterpiece
Comment: What could have given Berdoll the idea that she was capable of writing a sequel to such and classic is beyond me. Sure, the book is exciting, but is essentially no different than any other romance novel at the bookstore. I believe that she did a great discredit to an amazing author and her wonderful story by presuming to have the ability to continue it. Pride and Prejudice is a love story that begins with Mr. Darcy and Miss Bennet meeting, and concludes with them marrying and living on happily ever after. It is complete in itself. Berdoll's book destroys the essence of this story. Berdoll is a talented writer, but I am left to assume that maybe she used Jane Austen's creative characters and title in hopes of selling more copies than if she had called her book by any other name. Or maybe she liked Austen's original so much, she wanted the story to continue on. But if this is the case, she took on a task that was way to great for her.
A good book for anyone who is into modern romances, but if you really admire Jane Austen and her novel, i don't recommend it. It really will destroy the story for you.

Summary: Old Friends With a New Story
Comment: This book is definately not by Jane Austen. I really liked Pride and Predudice. You can't help but fall in love with the characters and the story is wonderful. However, I loved The Bar Sinsister. It follows the familiar characters, adding a few new ones, and pretty much follows the story guidelines set forth by Austen in the original. However, this book, has all of the action and adventure that the original lacks, while remaining fateful and continuing the romance between Elizabeth and Darcy.
The novel will make you laugh and cry, smile and snear and leave you wanting more. I have read several sequels to Pride and Prejudice and this is by far the most entertaining. Several of the others only warranted a superficial skimming, but this one was impossible to put down and left me savoring every word. In fact it still does as I find myself repeatedly rereading my favorite parts.

Summary: Bar Sinister
Comment: Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite novels. I love the characters, the plot, and the writing. In this book we have the same characters, the plot is okay, if a little too complicated, but the writing leaves me cold. What this book needs is a better editor.
