Title: Ranger School, No Excuse Leadership by Brace E. Barber ISBN: 0-9678292-0-8 Publisher: Patrol Leader Press Pub. Date: 04 April, 2000 Format: Paperback List Price(USD): $14.95 |

Rating: 5
Summary: The title says it all
Comment: Barber provides the reader with an insight into the making of modern day leaders from a military perspective, and demonstrates how it is applicable in an assortment of military and non-military scenarios. The theme of the book is leadership, obviously so because the author ensures its constant presence throughout the anecdotes provided. This constant presence however, can make the experience either more enjoyable or less so beecause of the repetitiveness.
The author takes great pride in the Rangers and rightly so, considering the accounts that are provided as a result of participating in Ranger school. I recommend this book not only for its analysis of leadership, but also for the stories provided (which can get very interesting at time - they read like fiction, but the fact that they're real makes them even more enjoyable).
Rating: 4
Summary: Must read for future Ranger students
Comment: I bought this book to prepare myself for Ranger school and now I feel like I have a much, much better idea of what I am going to encounter. It made me think twice about going to Ranger school, seeing all of the hardships through students' eyes, but life as a real man is not appealing at all especially after seeing how Ranger school changed each of the students' lives in a positive way even after they left the army.

Summary: Army Ranger's Take on the Book
Comment: I first picked up this book soon after entering active duty as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry knowing that Ranger School was in my future. I found this book to be very funny at times and also a great testament to what is taught and learned in this school. I probably read this book 3 times before I went to Ranger School and I was a bit nervous. After I graduated Ranger School I went back and read it again and laughed at most of the stuff because I had experienced or witnessed almost everything that was written about in the book. This books is outstanding in giving a prospective Ranger a heads up on what to expect. Don't let the stories get you too nervous about the school though. It is not impossible.
