Summary: This is the first in a series of oil can collector books
Comment: American Oil Cans, Volume 1, is the first issue of a series of books. A second volume is being produced now for release in 2006. The books specialize in one quart round cans.
This is the best of several currently available books on oil can collecting. The 1100 digitally sharpened color images are the clearest you will find anywhere. A line of information is noted on each can with brand, company name, colors, can material, dates and value. Helpful tips on grading, pricing and dating by seams and lids. 128 pages. Volume 1 published 2003.
All brands and can styles are not included. Future volumes will include those not in this book. Soft cover. More on oil cans at Oldgas.com

Summary: Contains useful information, but oddly incomplete .
Comment: I found this book to be useful and informative, but also odd in some ways. For instance, the only oil cans shown in the book are cylindrical shaped one quart cans, with round tops. There are several other shapes and sizes of oil cans, but none are shown. ( For instance, many brands of outboard motor oil came in rectangular cans). Another oddity is that the cans shown have been "touched up" using a computer graphics program to make them appear in new condition. I fail to see the value of doing that, as I would rather see the cans in their " as found" condition, with only a light cleaning, in the way that most collectors would display their cans. Also, the price given for each can has less meaning to the collector if it is not linked to a can of known condition, as shown in a photo. I did appreciate, however, the many tips given to determine the date of cylindrical, quart cans. Overall, while this book is a worthwhile addition to a collector, I had to buy books by other authors to supply information this book should have contained.
