Summary: The Existential Intrusion
Comment: This fabulous book is truly one that I would reccommend to everyone. It is almost a response to Camus', "We must imagine Sisyphus happy." This book details the process by which a drug addict stops the self-medication and begins living again. James Frey takes on the ultimate decision to live authentically by choosing to remain drug free. He becomes the embodiment of the 1940's existential explosion by being concious of his own responsibility in his existence.
This is one of the best books I have ever read...and I've read a lot of them.
Rating: 5
Summary: There is a lesson to be learned.
Comment: First of all, I have to thank James Frey for sharing this book with us. His is a story the likes of which I have never read. It is a comprehensive, heart wrenching, brutally honest account of substance abuse, addiction, self loathing and ultimately redemption. This book should be read by anyone whose life has been touched by any type of addiction. The writing is fantastic, James's uncoquerable spirit is present in every poetic line. I cannot believe he survived some of the things that are described in this book. Many times as I was reading, I had to put the book aside for a moment because it was all too much to take in at one time. Now imagine living like that. The best thing I can say about this book is even if the reader is the most cynical of people, he or she will come away having learned something. I know I did and I won't forget this story for a long, long time. Mr. Frey has such a unique voice and I look forward to anything else he writes.

Summary: This Book Rocks. Period.
Comment: Not being as eliquent with words as James Frey is, I struggle to communicate how this book has impacted my life. There is something about it. It is intriguing. It captures you from the very beginning, and I am easily distracted. The writing format keeps you interested along with what is being said. This gives NOTHING away, but he describes drinking coffee in this book to the extent that I ALWAYS think about his description everytime I have a cup of hot coffee - which is every morning. So I think about this book every morning. I don't struggle with addiction. I, of course, know people who do or have. It is just a fabulous book that really changed me. I love this book. Absolutely love it. Will read it again. But am letting it marinate for a while. Please read it. It will move you.
