Summary: He ain't no horse whisperer, but he is the REAL Wyatt Webb!
Comment: Wyatt Webb makes clear in the first sentence of his book that he is NOT a horse whisperer. And even before that (on the book cover in fact) he makes clear that it's NOT about the horse. As a psychotherapist and author I believe that coming to terms with what is NOT the truth is an excellent first step toward discovering what IS the truth. So let me tell you some other things this book is NOT:

It's NOT just another self-help book

It's NOT just a memoir

It's NOT to be taken lightly

Now, something about what Wyatt Webb's book IS:

It's Not About The Horse is a rare find in that it is as enjoyable as it is useful and as inspirational as it is practical. This is far more than a book about the life and times of Wyatt Webb (which makes for some pretty interesting reading by the way). This book is about all of us. It is, to use Wyatt's words, "about how we relate to all living things."

Read this book and you will know yourself a little (or maybe a lot) better. And when you finish it, you will feel like you know Wyatt Webb too. More importantly, you will be glad to know him.

Summary: This Book Changed My Life
Comment: It's not often that a book comes along that changes your life, but that's exactly what happened after I read "It's Not About the Horse." Wyatt Webb is much more than a therapist. He is a philosopher and one of the few sane minds we have in these troubled and frightening times. Reading his book is like having the chance to have a therapy session with a man who puts it all in perspective and makes sense in the most direct and honest way. The first half of his book reads like a great novel about a man's struggle with his own problems. Then the second half gives advice that the reader can put into play the minute they close the book. Hats off to Webb. I can't wait to make the trip out to Tucson to meet you and I will read anything you write in the future.

Summary: Engaging and Inspiring
Comment: "It's Not about the Horse" is one of the most concise and readable discussions on, as Wyatt Webb says, discovering how we can do things differently. This little book is chock full of easy to grasp and swallow morsels of wisdom. Webb's voice is relevant, irreverent, at times hilarious, and honest. He shines a light on many truths in a uniquely accessible and engaging manner without writing whole chapters about each one. He manages to walk you straight toward some of the most difficult doors we all stand before as human beings and open them up with a simple, down-to-earth understanding that comes directly from his own painful journey.

Most of this book lives true to the title, however it does seem that Webb's approach could be summed up by his belief that working with horses offers one the opportunity to "get real or get lost". (He does have a kind of 'take no prisoners' way about him.) He shows us a glimpse of how he got real and offers us his guidance in finding our way back home. I think this book would be useful to just about anyone who picked it up.
