Summary: Bright Colors And Nipples?
Comment: In my opinion, Batman And Robin, is by far the worst of the feature films so far. The good news though, is that as director Chrstopher Nolan readies to relaunch the franchise, he has nowhere to go but up. The film is so bad that it makes the campy fun of 1960's television series seem sophisticated by comparision. As part of my look back at the first 4 films, I decided to forge ahead and read The Official Movie Book anyway, despite my feelings about the film.

Author Michael Singer puts his know how as an industry Unit Publicist, and chronicler of Batman Returns & Batman Forever, to good use. Having said that, the text isn'e as "zippy" as his previous efforts would have indicated. I did gain some insight into the film's problems by reading comments from director Joel Schumacher. Basically, he wanted to do a "true" comic book movie. He was tired of seeing Batman portrayed so darkly. He wanted to lighten up a bit. Huh? Uh, isn't our hero also called the DARK Knight for a reason? I't's clear that Schumacher got out of hand when implementing that directive. The book also has too many page length character poses I didn't need to see those at all. I can only take so much of seeing our hero show off his nipple costume. Another problem is that singer spends too much time the gadgets in the movie. In the other Bae-film books hespent the right amount of time writing about that side of things. Here, that suff reads as mostly filler. I think the powers that be though the film was going to take off so the ased for nore pages...some 32 aditional pages beyond the average 96 in the past.

My favorite part of the 128 page book comes at the begining, detailing when Batman creator, the late Bob Kane, visited the set for his cameo. The book is only for fans (if there are any) of the the film.-

Summary: You Liked the film? You'll like the book.
Comment: 'The Making of a Movie That Should Not Be Made'. That could be a more appropriate title for this book, as far as I am concerned. However, objectivelly, it has been done very good work here, with detailed photos and texts concerning the SFX etc. It would be an essential purchase if you liked -ahem!- the 'movie'. I put it only 3 out of 5 because I actually hate the film, but if you are a fan of it the score is 5/5.

Summary: Interesting behind the scenes look
Comment: I must admit, I am not a Batman and Robin fan. I only bought the book because George Clooney was playing the latest Batman. In spite of this, I found the book very interesting to read. It gave a very detailed behind-the-scenes look at how the movie was made. If you're into Batman movies (or movie making in general), I think you'll enjoy it.
