Summary: Archival research pertaining to free people of color.
Comment: Horton's research should be included in the library of any person truly desirous of understanding the complexity of racial relations and racism in America. Horton provides documentable information about "Free Blacks" in the 18th and 19th centuries. His research dicusses people, places and things done by free blacks to equalize their political, social and economic presence and the presence of their enslaved "sisters and brothers". The statistics are astounding.
