Summary: Not Bad, But You've Read Better
Comment: Child and Preston embark on Andromeda Strain territory. And pretty well, at that. A research facility in the desert is being used under false pretenses to develop a super biological weapon. A couple of the scientists begin to figure out what's going on when some of their colleagues start dying. Taking the high road, they fight their way out of the high security facility to warn the world and put a stop to it.
Unfortunately, at that point the book loses steam. Fully a third of the novel is taken up with a chase sequence that is exciting enough, but simply goes on too long. At the same time, there is a virtual reality confrontation between two old adversaries that is interesting, but a bit too sci-fi for an otherwise pretty straightforward suspenser.
I'd give this one an extra half-star, if the ratings system enabled it. It's not the best for anyone just starting out on Child and Preston, but fans of the pair may well want to come back to it after they've exhausted their better titles.

Summary: I could not put this book down.
Comment: Preston and Child really know how to take the reader on a roller coaster ride. I finished this book in a couple of days...mainly because I found it extremely difficult to put down. At the end of each chapter, I wanted to keep reading so I could find out what happened next. These two are becoming a couple of my favorite authors.
The biohazard novel is nothing new. However, these two authors have managed to transform it into a gripping, realistic story. They are similar to Michael Crichton in that they take actual science, stretch the bounds of reality a little, and come up with something so believable that it's scary. The story they've crafted around the science is a wonder to read. The characters are believable, the story is gripping, and the climax is fulfilling. I would recommend this book to anybody who's into science thrillers or action movies.

Summary: Really good read
Comment: It's not there best work, but even so, it's better than probably 95% of what's out in the genre and in general. Preston and Child do a great job with plot and character. I thought the "bad guy" was great, and I thought the climax was very, very good.
These guys write damn good novels.
