Summary: Content is Out-of-Date
Comment: I purchased this in 1997 and even then, the content was out of date. Bad URLs, Netscape Navigator 1.1, and WebStar? I can't believe this book is still listed as being in print. Another reviewer mentioned the heavy use of HoTMetaL-- do yourself a favor. Get Homesite, Dreamweaver or FrontPage, and you'll be much better off.
You're not going to be creating any great-looking documents with this dead dog.
Rating: 5
Summary: Excellent primer for Web novices/intermediate
Comment: I read this book to learn more about Java script, HTML basics, and Web lingo in general. I found much more. The examples of actual Web sites that use specific interactive features are prolific and the URLs for the examples were accessible the last time I used them (3 months ago--things change rapidly on the Web, don't we all know!). The organization and formatting of the book is easy to follow and appealling visually.
The book is designed for ease of access to information.
Perhaps some authors who are looking for more technical details, related to troubleshooting were disappointed--but there are a lot of details nevertheless. For people just learning about Web design and those who want to extend or refresh what they know, I highly recommend this book.
Rating: 2
Summary: Too much emphasis on the program "HoTMetaL Pro"
Comment:
I received this book from a colleague. I was hoping to use it as an HTML reference, but I didn't find it very useful for that.
It is very heavy on instruction in the software included
on the CD-ROM. If you are interested in Windows
shareware, this may be useful to you. If you aren't
on Windows, I would not recommend the book.
