Summary: Magick et al
Comment: When I finally recieved this book, I was amazed at the wealth of information in it. I was extremely impressed at what an excellent job they did packing it with useful information. However, this book was written in such a fashion it's a bit like "jumping into the deep end"..so I recommend you do as I did, and purchase and read Donald Michael Kraig's Modern Magick first in its entirety, then use the understanding gained there to move on to this book. Otherwise, when it mentions things like Qameas and whatnot early on, you are likely to get lost. One other thing: a chaote who reviewed this book referred to outdated dogma, etc., etc., and said if you want results, try these other books. I feel the need to point out that Golden Dawn magick isn't as much about practical magick results as it is about Spirituality, Mysticism, and reuniting with the Godhead. For those of you looking for magick for another end, this isn't likely to be a good path for you; perhaps you should look into other more "practical" books.

Summary: GOOD BOOK BUT....
Comment: When one first picks up a book with the Title of "Self Initiation" He/She is not expecting to have to have a 4 year collage degree in occult science. Most people who seek to understand the Arts of magick are just as lay as a kid with only a 9th or 12th grade education. This book is filled with great information on the arts of magick and its history and points of view but it's worse than picking up the good book written completly in Hebrew. I bought the book because I am interested in the operation of golden dawn magickal studies but after the first chapter I had to put it on the shelf because of its many complex and confusing terms. great for the advanced student but not for the begainner.

Summary: execllent, an essential for beginners
Comment: The Ciceros have done an excellent job writing Self Initiation. For anyone interested in initiation into the Golden Dawn system of magick, this is a must have. Everything you need to advance from Neophyte to Portal is in here. I would suggest combining this book with Kraig's "Modern Magick."
