Summary: Comprehensive, Well-Rounded, Well-written Book! Read it!
Comment: Let's face it; we've all read techinical books that have a better success rate with inducing sleep than most drugs do! Certainly the size of Laura's book might intimidate one into thinking that this book will do the same. Let me tell you that it will NOT. You will remain very much awake and want to!
This is the second by I have read by Lemay and I found this book to be an excellent teaching & a fabulous reference tool. Truly, it covers all the topics necessary for a person who is starting out in HTML and is serious about the propect of developing web pages. I write web pages for a living. I do it well because of what I have learned from this book. In fact, I liked it so much; I bought one for my father and have recommended this book to a small army of other people!
I will say this much: if you are a detail oriented person, then you will be Very Happy with this book. If you are a spur of the moment, "just teach me a few things and let me go with it", then perhaps one of her more laconic books would best suit you. Good luck!

Summary: Easy to understand book that covers it all
Comment: Several years ago I used this book to teach myself HTML. I started on page one and went through the book. By the time I went through the very clearly written chapters I had an excellent understanding of HTML. I had bought other books, but they were not organized as logically and clearly as this book is. After buying this book, the only other HTML book I ever opened was a tag book. This even has color codes and other resource materials.
Because of this book (and several years of heavy practice) I now consider myself an expert HTML user, and I've been confidently able to move on to CSS, nested tables, and other fancy stuff without relying on WYSIWYG editors.

Summary: Wonderful HTML Tutorial for the Beginner
Comment: This is the best book ever written for the beginner on HTML. It is easy to read, it contains a good reference, and it doesn't bog you down with technical detail.
Read this book first. When you are comfortable with the teachings in this book, then add Oreilly's HTML: a definitive guide to your collection.
